Applicants of category OC / OBC / EWS Male should pay a fee of 100 / – (Rupees one hundred) for each set of five options. A candidate who is required to pay will have to visit any of the Head Post Offices or other identified Post Offices in India. The names of the offices are available on the website http://appost.in/gdsonline.

Age Range

For the purpose of engagement for GDS posts the minimum and maximum age will be 18 and 40 years respectively, the date of notification of vacancies on 15 October 2019. Permissible relaxation in upper age limit for various categories is as follows: –

There will be no relaxation in upper age limit for EWS candidates. However, persons belonging to EWS not covered under the scheme of reservation for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes, will get 10% reservation in engagement for Gramin Dak Sevak posts in the Department of Posts as per the directive of the Directorate. 17-09 / 2019-GDS dated 26.02.2019.

All Recruiting Authorities will maintain reservations for persons with disabilities, except for the benchmark of disability “blind” (for all categories of GDS) for persons with disabilities of all categories of GDS. The percentage of reservation can be maintained in the case of SC, ST and OBC categories as per the order of the Directorate on the posts of GDS. 17-08 / 2017-GDS dated 26.02.2019. The relaxation in upper age limit is subject to the condition that the maximum age of the applicant should not be more than 55 years on the due date.

Job Location




It will be compulsory to pass secondary school examination with 10th class in Mathematics and English (studied as compulsory or optional subjects) conducted by any recognized Board of School Education by the Government of India / State Governments / Union Territories. Educational qualification for all approved categories of Gramin Dak Sevaks.
In the first attempt, the candidate passed the Class X examination, which would inevitably be considered meritorious against those who passed.
The candidate should study the local language [as compulsory or optional subjects] at least till 10th standard as declared by the state government or according to the constitutional provisions relating to the 8th schedule of the Constitution of India.

Basic Computer Training:
Candidates of all the approved categories of GDS specified in (i) above to submit a basic computer training course certificate of at least 60 days duration from any computer training institute run by the Central Government / State Government / Universities / Boards / Private Institutions. Will be required Organization. This requirement of basic computer knowledge certificate will be relaxed in cases where a candidate has studied computer as a subject in matriculation or class 12th or any other higher academic level and in such cases, a separate certificate Will not be emphasized.

However, in respect of GDSs engaged on or after 01.07.2018, the TRCA will be preliminary determined in the first phase of Level-I of the respective category.

Selection Process

Selection will be done on the basis of the candidates submitted online as per the rules automatically generated merit list.

ii. No weightage will be given for higher educational qualifications. Only the marks obtained in 10th standard of approved boards for percentage of accuracy of 4 decimals will be the criteria to finalize the selection. All subjects are compulsory subject to the conditions specified in Section B of the notification relating to the required educational qualification keeping in view the candidate for calculating the qualification as per the approved approved Board norms.

iii. Candidates with both marks and grades in the marks list will have to apply with marks only. If a candidate responsible for disqualification applies to the grade with his application only

iv. In the case of a list of marks consisting of grades / marks, the marks shall be reckoned with the conversion of grades and multiplication factor (9.5) taking the maximum points or marks as 100 as grades.

v. If the candidate gets the same marks, the merit order is taken as DOB (more age as qualification), ST female, SC female, OBC female, EWS female, UR female, ST male, SC male, OBC male, EWS Will go. Male, ur male.

vi. A candidate can apply for a maximum of twenty posts as per the online engagement cycle. This difference means that a potential candidate can apply for twenty posts on a single application spread across one or all circles. However, this count of twenty posts is included for vacancies in the candidate’s home circle. (Home Circle means the circle in the original / domiciled position of the prospective candidate in which he is permanently residing and studied SSCwhere Postal Circle is providing opportunity). Therefore, candidates should be advised to take proper care in each cycle, using the twenty options available to him. However, only one post will be offered for each circle if it has applied for one or more posts in each circle.

vii. If a candidate selects for five posts with preference post 1, post 2, post 3, post 4, post 5 etc. and is selected as meritorious in more than one post, the post offered in order of preference And candidature for all remaining posts will be forfeited. . Similarly, in case of any candidate joining any selected post, the offer of the remaining options will be automatically forfeited. If a candidate has applied for more than one circle, only one post will be offered per circle.

viii. Applicants submitted without complete data will also be rejected from consideration.

Only one registration is allowed for a candidate. The same registration number should be used to submit an application during the cycle in any circle. Mobile number mapping is mandatory for registration. Once registered, the same mobile number will also not be allowed for registration of any other candidates. In case of any duplicate registration it is found that by changing the original details, all the candidates related to such registration will be removed for consideration of selection. Any candidate who has forgotten the registration number can get the registration number through the option ‘Forgot registration’.
